How do I use script_url in 99Stack API?

I was trying to deploy a new server from the API when I found the field script_url, what is that and how does it work? Can I use it to make the new server install and configure some program or similar?

Url to installation script. Scripts are executed using /bin/bash (Linux), /bin/sh (FreeBSD), or cmd.exe (Windows)

So basically a script you can download from any public web server which will download and execute on first boot. I've tried it a few times and it's a pretty neat feature.

Just be careful with syntax errors tho, if one of those little things slink in your installation script will fail and install.log will be empty and you might scratch off all hair on your head before you realise what went wrong.

Allan_Virtanen Thanks for the advice but I'm already bald as it it is 😉

But joking aside, tried it out and it works just like described. Had my fair share of syntax errors before I got the script right but once it's valid everything works great.

Allan_Virtanen I've been unable to reproduce, any reason why there wouldn't be any logs written? Paths and permissions has been reworked recently so the issue might hgt have been fixed already.

Let me know if you still don't get any output in the new logpath: /var/log/99stack

Allan_Virtanen You can always validate your script before running, or deploy a small server just to test and debug your scripts for a few cents tho. 😉

Tested again, both on first and second generation servers, everything works fine now 👍️
