Any alternative to PHPmyadmin

I'm trying to setup an optimized and secure nginx + php-fpm server with a mysql database and I was wondering if there's anything similar to PHPmyadmin out there, basically some kind of PHP based database management script with the same amount of functionality. Any ideas?

There are a few alternatives indeed, personally I'd prefer Adminer. They describe themselves not just as an alternative to but also a direct competitor to phpmyadmin:

I'll go for Adminer as well, very small and advanced script, easy to install, just one single file. It's also easy to run locally on your own Linux machine so that you don't even need to have it running on your server. Thereby exposing it to the world of bad people trying to exploit your server.

Adminer is your preferred choice, it even has built in protection as it's basically just a simple yet advanced database management tool. What I mean is that unlike phpmyadmin you're not automatically logged into your database by default, you'll log in manually each time or save your credentials in cookies.
