Alan_Rowell I need to send emails to my clients directly from my VPS, is it possible or is the SMTP port blocked?
Kenneth_Crayton No port 25 is blocked everywhere, smtp is allowed tho (port 587) but you have to use an external service that filter out spam from your mail server. See this: https://support.99stack.com/article/20-what-ports-are-blocked Apparently the feature was abused and because the IP space is shared we'd all learned the hard way that we cannot have nice things, because some idiot will always appear from nowhere and ruin it.
Marco_Weiss Sorry but it's just not possible, and it seems to be the trend everywhere. If you do need a local mailserver however you could always use Mailgun as a proxy. Here's one way to make it work: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-a-mail-relay-with-postfix-and-mailgun-on-ubuntu-16-04
Alan_Rowell Ouch, well I've seen this problem before with previous providers. Guess I'll try that mailgun proxy, doesn't look too hard to setup and if I understand it correctly my emails will appear to come from mailgun and not from my server instance if someone looks up the IP?
