Included email proxy to avoid third party providers

Since we cannot send emails directly from the server instances and has to use third party services like Mailgun to send emails at all, I though about this idea where a API endpoint is used to send emails, for a small fee.

Wouldn't that simplify things a lot? no need for external accounts, just making a quick curl request and thousands of marketing emails or similar could be delivered with high accuracy from a trusted IP.

Personally I would prefer standard protocols, but having an API endpoint would be a good start.

Would be better with the ability to send emails directly, just add some additional validation in order to use that feature so it doesn't get abused again.

I don't really see the problem, it's not that hard to configure a proxy for your local mail server. Also routing through an API endpoint means potential surveillance and certainly filtering of potential spam.

Spammers has already ruined all clouds IP ranges so your best bet to actually get you emails delivered is to use a proxy/relaying service.

Would be better to allow opening port 25 in limited regions with some validation in advance to be sure the spammers won't ruin this feature for everyone again.

Very few providers allow smtp over port 25 today, and there's a reason for it. It's a good thing that it's blocked, maybe the world get less spam then.

Marco_Weiss How about deposition? Spammers won't use their real names, and collecting lot's of information about everyone, just to "stop the spam" doesn't make sense.

babar7 It's blocked network wide so either there are plans which allow smtp over port 25, or there isn't. Currently they seem to be out of stock. I still got a few servers with open smtp ports tho.

AndrewLowrance Brilliant. It does work pretty well for apartments you rent out, might work in this case too.

Will investigate this idea further. We've found an EU based provider with great IP reputation willing to provide us with servers that by default has unrestricted access to port: 25, 465 and 587 in and outbound.

The demand for this server type is high, and it's a shame that we haven't been able to provide it for all this time.

Seems kind of shady with a deposition, but from a privacy perspective, why not. Are there gonna be alternative ways to verify tho? Like some kind of ID validation.

Orson_Deforest We're looking into more traditional ID validation too, however that might only be offered in limited countries, since any ability to use fake ID's would ruin the whole point of validating ID's. Protection of such information is another concern.
