GPU servers, are they good for mining

Have anyone tried GPU mining on any of the GPU plans, i.e G3-gpu-*? seems to be top of the line Nvidia GPUs but the plans are also relatively expensive. Would mining be worth it?

Forget it, those are high end GPU's suitable for professional enterprise parallel computing. Sure you could use them for mining but it wouldn't be profitable. Not even if what you're mining doubles or triples in value short term.

Sorry for bumping this old post, but if you take the potential future price gains into consideration it might actually be worth it. Actually, after doing the math it seems that you would get about $2.4 worth of Ethereum per day and per GPU. A single GPU instance cost $1.5/day. That's $0.9 in profit per day for a on demand server in the cloud. Not bad actually.

BrittanyCasey Actually 99Stack uses NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 for G3-gpu instances, the price is $1.507/hr and those GPU's have similar specs as a regular 2080Ti, tho 24GB GDDR instead of 11GB and 4,608 Cuda cores instead of 4,352.

This currently generates about $1.59 per day so you'd loose money from mining on a GPU instance. Unless, if the value of Ethereum would go up by 2400%, then you'd break even. 🙂

However in that case it would probably be better to just buy Ethereum and hodl.

BrittanyCasey Those servers are made for parallel computation such as video encoding, animation or various types for rendering of 3D models. Wouldn't get much from mining on those. Would be cheaper than buying a bunch of Mac pro's tho if you're in the animation, movie or gaming business and only need them for a few months.

Try installing NiceHash, might not be profitable right now but at least you'd know how unprofitable it'll be 🙂
