JesseWells Has anyone tried this? I recently learned about MinIO object storage engine which seems relatively easy to setup and all I need is a folder to store the data, now if this folder is a fuse mounted SIA drive, will this allow me to build object storage on the decentralized sia network?
Kenneth_Crayton Filebase is great, tho it's a shame they only offer 1TB from $15. I mean the hole point with a sia backed object storage is to compete with centralized storage providers right. And as we know the centralized providers all offer pay-as-you-go. Filebase is more expensive than AWS unless you plan to store multiple TB of data.
JesseWells Kenneth_Crayton Exactly my thought, which is why I plan to use my $5/mo VPS I already got here as a self hosted object storage powered by sia, that way I only pay for sia storage and bandwidth. Using aws today but I don't really trust Amazon.
AndrewLowrance Sounds brilliant, but wouldn't that be slower when everything has to go through a single centralized server?
George_Hegland AndrewLowrance Sounds brilliant, but wouldn't that be slower when everything has to go through a single centralized server? What stops you from mounting the same SIA file system via fuse on multiple servers? Object storage also store all the meta data within the file system so this should be super easy to decentralize and scale horizontally right?
AndrewLowrance Redneck666 It can, but it'll be much harder. I've looked into this and tested a bit, using MinIO and SIA allow you to avoid vendor the lockins you'll see on most clouds as the software can basically run on any VPS or server, any cloud or even at home.
Pepe_The_Frog Have you considered Skynet? https://siasky.net/ If I understand it correctly you're able to access your files via any portal once uploaded.
Kenneth_Crayton Magnus_Lind Might even be using MinIO, too bad they only have one location and it seems to b running on AWS.
Boris_Zaitseva babar7 It's like playing Russian roulette, aws is notorious in their censorship. Why use them to access blockchain based storage, when the whole point of blockchain based storage is censorship resistance?
Josef I prefer the object storage available here, plenty of space, fast, reliable and predictable pricing.
